This past Tuesday, Tom Tugendhat, the British Security Secretary, declared that China had shut down the “secret police stations” it had established in the United Kingdom.
Foreign media reports that based on their observation, no evidence of illicit Chinese state activities has been discovered in such nations.
In the past, Britain has called rumors of unregistered police stations in the nation “extremely worrying” and vowed that it will not stand for intimidation of foreigners on British territory by China or other nations.
In a written letter to parliament, Tugendhat stated that British police were looking into accusations made by the human rights NGO Safeguard Defenders that similar police stations existed in three different parts of the nation.
“I can confirm that to date we have not identified any evidence of illegal activity by the Chinese state in these particular locations.”

Two New Yorkers were detained by US federal authorities in April on suspicion of establishing a Chinese “secret police station” in Manhattan’s Chinatown, a charge China has refuted.
According to the British government, there are around 100 such stations in the entire world.
